I so envied fellow pupils like you who could do no work but still come top. Interesting psychology that you didn't like being told what to do, yet joined the navy! School careers advice was definitely rubbish back in the day 😂. Seems to me like your brain is still firing on all cylinders anyway.

I never even went to the careers class. My mind was already made up.

If you are going to join the armed forced, joining the navy to be an engineer is probably the best option. Basically, you are the only one who can fix the sonar so no one else can tell you what to do.

My story is much like yours (I'm 87). Spent most of the last 2 years absent from school due to bullying but got 3 GCSES anyway. Went back to college and got a HNC electrical engineering.

The HNC I got in the Navy was also for electric/electronic engineering.

You were the busiest student in 1/10, Sarah!

I have a Sarah story to share :) We were in Mr Krasny's maths class togethr.

Mr Krasny: The next person to speak will get 100 lines!

Sarah: *whisper whisper*

Mr Krasny: Sarah! 10 lines!

Kevin: D'oh!

Mr Krasny: Kevin! 100 lines!

Nice to hear from you, Sarah!

I got away with quite a lot of whisper whisper. Although we didn't have a word for it in those days, I think at least some of the teachers realised I was some form of neuro-diverse. History Mr Wederell once told me I was 'idiosyncratic'

I never quite got the hang of whispering, Sarah.

Dare I ask which of my class mates you are?

Well, I was the only Kevin L in 1/10. I don’t think we were in another class together. Maybe Mr Anderson’s English in 4/5 year?

Worst decision was almost certainly moving you down a stream rather than providing extra challenge. You sound as though you were bored witless.

Good luck with the OU results and go for a first class degree.
